We are having a good old Oklahoma ice storm. The last one we had was in December 2007 and it was a doozy. This one is just as cold, with less ice and not the high winds of 2007. Right now it's sleeting, and everything is covered in white from the sleet. No snow. The girls are out of school because of ice covered roads. With a low of 17 for the morning, they probably won't have school tomorrow either. I hate ice....but then doesn't everyone?! Snow can be played in, and skied upon. But Ice is heavy, slippery, and sharp.
At least cold, icy weather means a fire in the fireplace, which is nice. The girls enjoy their hot chocolate, and playing in front of the fireplace. For me, it means worrying about loved ones, and praying that everyone is safe. Not everyone calls and lets me know they are safe, and I worry. Doesn't mean I'm trying to make them clock in and out. I just want to know they are safe. When a person watches the weather channel, or hears the local news team remarking on how slick the roads are, or that there have been 37 accidents in an hour, or x number of people have gone to the hospital for ice related accidents, then that person will worry when knowing someone they care about is out there. Dennis had cold related chest pains yesterday while out putting Ice Melt on the driveway. He didn't tell me until we had gone to bed for the night. *sigh* Good timing, husband of mine. That meant a night spent praying! I didn't lecture him on his bad timing. I just hugged him tight and told him I love him, and then reminded him that we learned in Cardiac Rehab that a person who heart problems should not be out in temps below freezing.
Worrying about loved ones is emotionally tiring. I can't change anything by worrying. I just remind the Lord that He says He has given His angels charge over us, to keep us in all our ways.
