From fun to freaky on a Thursday

This is a picture of our dog, Pixie. We got her when she was a 6 week old ball of fluff. DJ bought her for me from a guy across from WalMart selling puppies. We got her 3 years ago. All this time she has been the quietest, the sweetest, the most patient of dogs. She allowed all 3 of the girls to love all over her without a peep out of her. She would look on them as her puppies, and smile. Doesn't she look like she is smiling in this picture?!

Ten weeks ago Pixie had a litter of 6 puppies. I've posted pictures of them. Really cute, but then, aren't all puppies cute?! Pixie was a great mother to the puppies for about 4 1/2 weeks, then she decided those puppies did not need to be nursing from her anymore. But the puppies took to canned dog food, and they drank water from a low bowl, and they grew and thrived. Dennis, DJ, and the girls took four of the puppies across from WalMart and sold them all within 30 minutes. The other two puppies we decided we would keep. AJ looks just like his dad, Alexander.
(thus the name AJ...Alexander Jr). The other puppy I named Sassy Pants because she would growl and bark at the other puppies and act like she was the queen of the crate! Now at 10 weeks, Sassy looks like a black German Shepherd. Alexander is a full blood German Shepherd, and Pixie is black. So it looks like just enough of Pixie in her to make her look like a black German Shepherd. Really cute dogs!

Well, on Thursday during celebration of school reopening after the ice storm, when I was in the kitchen doing mom stuff, the girls suddenly started screaming. I went to the living room, where I was greeted with Cheyenne screaming and crying that Ally had blood. I looked at Ally, and saw, indeed, she did have blood, and lots of it. She was covered on her arms, all over her pajamas, and standing in a puddle of blood. Her nose was gushing blood. I held her, and asked what happened. Cheyenne said "Pixie bit her". WHAT??
My Pixie had bit my daughter??? How could this happen..... I took Ally into the bathroom to clean up all the blood, and try to get the bleeding to stop. I was an EMT in Ohio, and I know what to do to stop such bleeding. But it wouldn't stop. Now the bathroom is covered in blood. It looked like we had tried to sacrifice Ally....
I screamed to Dennis to come now I needed him. When he got to the bathroom, I told him we had to take Ally to the e.r. and right now, as I couldn't get the bleeding to stop. Then I said "and that dog is gone". We had always agreed that no dog that bites will remain in our home.

It's a long story, so I'll just tell you that Pixie is now a ward of the animal control department in our city. They will hold her for 10 days, then probably put her down. I've cried over this, but I know it's the right decision for our family.
I've told Ally it isn't her fault, she did nothing wrong. Our family unit here is strong and full of love, and we will survive.

Ally is doing amazing. Her face is healed and you can't see anything wrong. I praise God for that. Only He can do amazing things! While I was praying for Ally
I reminded Him that I love Him, I believe He exists, and I believe He hears me. I believe He loves me and cares for me, and Ally. I reminded Him that He says in His Word that He answers while we are yet speaking. So I believe He healed Ally even while I was still talking to Him! What an amazing, wonderful, loving God I serve!

Dianne...how amazing that Ally doesn't have any scars from the dog bite.We have been there and done that when a dog of my hubby's turned on one of our daughters when she was quite young. He growled at her and that was enough for us.It would have been too hard to trust that dog around our young daughters. We also had the animal control come and pick up the dog.

Dianne, I am glad Ally's wound is healing. I am sure she feels safer knowing that Pixie won't be in the home any longer. I know it's been a difficult ordeal for your family.

Poor Ally - I am so glad that she will be OK. I agree with you in not having Pixie in the home. I am so sorry that little Ally was bit.

You did the right thing! Don't ever doubt. No dog that bites ANYONE should be allowed in a home with children. If there were ever a hint of anything, man or beast, any pet would be OUT the door.
