God has one eye on the sparrow.....

.....and the other one on Dennis.
Dennis has been coughing a lot, and has been having trouble with congestion. On Friday I told him to go lay down and try to rest. I heard him coughing, and coughing. After maybe 45 minutes, Dennis came back into the living room, and he really looked terrible. I told him that I was going to call the primary care doctor, and that's what I did. The nurse at first told me to take him to the Urgent Center. But when I reminded her that Dennis just had a major heart attack, and stents put in, she then told me to take him to the e.r.

At the e.r. they were PACKED TO THE RAFTERS. They "triaged" Dennis and sent him to a room. Someone came in and did an e.k.g. and then a chest x-ray. Then they had Dennis go into the hall and wait for someone to call him. We sat out there in the hall for SIX HOURS! No one spoke to us, or even looked at us all that time. Our daughter, Denise, and I joked around for maybe 5 hours, but then we got really upset and angry about the wait. We were waiting with the very nicest lady, who had had open heart surgery a couple of weeks ago, and was having a problem, and here she was waiting all that time with us. It was so scary, and so frustrating. I know they were full, and busy, but Dennis has heart problems, for goodness sake. We brought him to the e.r. because his doctor felt like that his condition was serious.

Following shift change, a nurse came over to where we were sitting and told us we would have to go out into the larger waiting area because they needed those seats. Which meant I would have to leave my husband alone. Well, I'm not very proud of myself for what followed but I threw a fit. I said that they had made my husband sit out there in the hall for 6 hours, and ignored him, and now they wanted to leave him alone there and maybe to die. Then I was sobbing, and our daughter had to help me go out to the larger waiting room and wait. I don't know if it was the fit I threw or what, but in about 5 minutes, they had Dennis in a room, and they allowed Denise and I to go in with him. When they saw how serious Dennis' condition was, people were coming in and out all over the place. Dennis has congestive heart failure, and sitting there for 6 hours didn't help his condition.

He was put in an area that is a step down from ICU. They finally put him in a room around 2:30 in the morning. He had breathing treatments, and was put on Lasix. His condition was improved enough by Sunday that his cardiologist released him. He did not come home healed. He came home to hopefully get stronger and by March 10th they are hoping he can check into the heart hospital and have more stents put in. We are hoping that with his diet and meds, he will not need the stents. The cardiologist told him that he must be 100% well in order to have the procedure done.

He is tired, but not coughing near as much. Any and all prayers would be so appreciated.

(((Dianne))) I can't imagine your frustration with having to wait for Dennis to receive medical attention. Prayers for both of you are being said! Susan in SC
